I am living with the wonderful Castro family in Santa Lucia. Rina Yaneth Castro is the head of the household. She works as a secretary in Teguc and is also working on her bachelor degree. He sister, Ana Silvia Castro also lives with us and is the one who makes me breakfast and lunch. Rina has three children living here: Rina Maria (19), Donaldo Isac (17) and Nahomi Yaneth (12). Rina is in her second year of law school. Donaldo is in his last year of high school (and has a girlfriend so I’ve only seen him twice since I have been here). Nahomi is in 7th grade. They are all very nice and relaxed, and I feel totally comfortable here.
I let my family know that I am a vegetarian and they we fine with it J. Actually my family doesn’t eat that much meat, I have only seen them eat meat once since I have been here. They have been very accommodating and cook three meals a day for me. Of course the staples are beans and rice, but since I have been here I have had eggs, fruits, vegetables, pasta, soy (yeah), bread, cheese and fresh squeezed juice. The house is much nicer than I expected. They have consistent electricity, running water and a telephone. I have a large room with a double bed. The bathroom is just like one you would find in the states, except the electro ducha (electric shower) only heats the water from freezing to really cold. Today I took my first shower with hot water (boiled on the stove) and it was great.

this place looks amazing. i'm so excited for you. do you ever sleep in the hammock instead of your room? have you encountered any strange critters while you've been down there?
Nope, I haven't slept in the hammock yet, they are great for naps though.
Mice, mosquitos, geckos, cockroaches, ants and spiders are all the animals that I have seen in my room. Although it sounds like a lot I have only seen a few of each.
